Former Director General of Bribery Commission Dilrukshi acquitted in

fake audio tape incident created by Avant Guard chief

The University of Moratuwa and the Government Analyst Department have

confirmed, the audio tape of the controversial telephone conversation

between the former Director General of the Bribery Commission

Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe and the owner of Avant Guard Nisshanka

Senadhiphi has been edited. Based on that the Public Services

Commission has decided to acquit Dilrukshi Wickramasinghe, who was

suspended from work on the basis of this audio clip.

In the year 2021, during a long investigation conducted by the

University of Moratuwa and the Government Analyst Department, it was

revealed that the controversial audio tape was made by distorting the

entire telephone conversation. In the year 2019, when this audio was

circulated on social media, the Public Service Commission, which

started investigating the incident, temporarily suspended Dilrukshi

Dias Wickramasinghe on the 24th of that month.

At the time of the incident, she was working as the Deputy Additional

Solicitor General of the Attorney General’s Department. The incident

was a controversial debated issue in the country. But Dilrukshi Dias

asked Avant Guard chief to make public the entire audio recording of

the incident.

Later it was revealed to the media that it was Vajira Abeywardena who

first contacted Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe over the phone. He was

the Minister of Public Administration at the time. It was said that

this telephone conversation was conducted on the basis of a plot by

the minister Vajira Abeywardena and the chief of the Avant Guard and

later they edited and released the audio clip on social media.

It is clear that these two wanted to insult and disrespect Dilrukshi

Dias Wickramasinghe, who was doing her duty very honestly as the

Director General of the Bribery Commission.
